Abrar Alvi (1 July – 18 November ) was an Indian film writer, director and actor.

Born in , Alvi hailed from a family deeply connected to Nagpur.

Often reduced to being Guru Dutt's right-hand man, Abrar Alvi was a visionary writer of plays, screenplays and dialogues — and a director.

He selflessly devoted more than 50 years to Indian cinema. In the 1950's and 60's, he executed projects with Guru Dutt that ignited a fire in the film industry.

It was an accident of fate that he met Guru Dutt on the shooting sets of ‘Baz’, in 1953, when Dutt was facing certain problems with the dialogues, and in turn was assisted and helped by him.

Dutt was so impressed by his talent that he extended him the offer for writing ‘Aar-Par’, from where he embarked on a new journey with the actor, and essentially became the most integral part of his team. His classical writings have earned him recognition and glory, all around the world.
