          Barbara Stanwyck, born Ruby Catherine Stevens on July 16, 1907, in New York, USA, was an American actress in film and television.

          She was a recipient of the Golden Globe and Emmy Award, and a multiple-time nominee for the Academy Award.

          Early Life and Tragedies

          Barbara Stanwyck was the youngest of five children who were raised in a family.

          In 1910, her mother, Catherine McGee, tragically died after being pushed under a tram by a drunk passerby. Soon after the tragedy, her father, Byron Stevens, left the family and went to work on the construction of the Panama Canal.

          As a result, Ruby and her brother Malcolm were placed in foster homes.
